At this time, service has been restored to all residential customers affected by the recent winter storm.
If you are still without power, please call our main office (906) 228-0300
Restoration efforts continue as we work through the final outages following the recent winter storm.
Heavy snowfall and snowdrifts have made access to some areas challenging, but efforts to clear roads are underway, and progress is being made so our crews can reach impacted equipment.
We plan to have another update later this evening.
We currently stand at 34 customers without power across 11 separate outages.
The good news is that the weather has calmed down, specifically the wind, and roads are continuing to be cleared, helping our crews access affected areas.
Steady progress was made through the night, with those efforts continuing into today. Crews will continue working towards full restoration of all customers affected by the outages.
If crews are working on the roadside, please slow down and give them plenty of space.
We appreciate your understanding as we continue these efforts.
We will be providing another update this afternoon.
Due to continuing inclement weather, our front office (Billing office) will be closed tomorrow, Tuesday, March 17th.
Although our front office is closed for the day, our line workers and distribution crews continue restoration efforts until power is restored to all affected customers.
If you experience an interruption in service, please use one of the following ways to report it:

(Marquette, MI) MBLP Outage Update – 5:00pm
Restoration efforts remain ongoing across our service territory as crews continue working to restore power following the severe winter weather. High winds, whiteout conditions, and access challenges caused by heavy snowfall are making restoration efforts difficult in many areas.
Field crews have been working to assess damage and restore service when and where it can be done safely. Near-record snow has made reaching certain locations challenging, particularly in rural areas and along lines that are not easily accessible from the roadside.
While this storm shares similarities with past winter weather events, every storm and restoration effort presents unique challenges. High winds and trees contacting utility lines continue to be one of the primary causes of outages. Fortunately, the lighter snow has helped reduce the amount of tree limbs weighing down lines, which can occur during heavier, wetter snowfall.
Safety remains the top priority throughout restoration efforts. The safety of the community, as well as our line workers and employees, is always at the forefront of the decisions made during storm restoration efforts. Crews continue to work as conditions allow and will remain focused on restoring service safely.
At this time, it is difficult to determine exactly what conditions overnight may bring or precisely when all outages will be restored. Restoration efforts will continue as conditions allow, and until every affected customer has power restored. However, ongoing high winds and near-record snowfall are creating access challenges, making it possible that some customers may not have service restored until tomorrow.
Customers are reminded to stay clear of any downed utility lines. If you encounter a downed line, never approach the line or the surrounding area. A utility line can remain energized without showing any visible signs. Stay back and call 911 as soon as possible.
At this time, the next update is expected to be shared tomorrow morning, unless conditions significantly change.
Due to inclement weather, our front office (Billing office) will be closed tomorrow, Monday, March 16th.
Please know that while the font office is closed, our line workers and distribution crews will remain available and ready to respond if weather conditions cause any power outages.
If you experience an interruption in service, please use one of the following ways to report it:
– Call (906) 228-0300
– Text “OUT” to (906) 228-0300 (your cell number must be on your account)
– Report through the SmartHub Mobile App (available for Apple and Android) or online at https://mblp.org/billing/#smarthub
Stay safe, and we appreciate your understanding.
⚡ A Historic Milestone for Our Community ⚡
What was first proposed more than 40 years ago has now become reality. After multiple years of focused planning, organizing, construction, commissioning, and testing, the MBLP has officially completed a Second Interconnection to the Regional Electrical Transmission System – strengthening the resilience and reliability of our local electrical system for decades to come.
The new second interconnection provides our community with an additional, fully independent connection to the regional power network. This added redundancy significantly reduces the risk of system wide outages in our service area, increases operational flexibility, and mitigates risk associated with unexpected disruptions.
Previously, our system relied on a single primary interconnection point. While dependable, it offered limited redundancy. With this new connection in place, our electrical network is stronger, more stable, and better prepared to serve homes, businesses, schools, healthcare facilities, and other critical services, while also supporting future growth, economic development, and emergency preparedness.
A project of this size and scale requires coordination and cooperation with several different entities, groups, and individuals. We’re grateful for the organizations, crews, employees, and community members who played a role in making this project a reality. While we’ve highlighted several key partners below, we also want to recognize and thank those who contributed behind the scenes but may not be named here:
While the Second Interconnection line has officially been completed and placed in service, the MBLP will continue the consolidation of distribution lines onto the new transmission poles along the route. During this process, some of the smaller wooden distribution utility poles will be removed and the lines will be attached to the new transmission poles. This work is expected to begin this summer.
