Seasonal Utility Laborer

Marquette Board of Light & Power seeks a highly motivated individual to join their team as a Seasonal Utility Laborer. In this position, the successful candidate will, under supervision, perform general electric utility tasks, roadside flagging, and will assist line and service crews with groundwork, locating, tree trimming and removal, and other powerline work.  May be asked to work under limited supervision for some tasks depending on previous experience and qualifications. Will only perform certain tasks in proximity to energized equipment if deemed qualified through experience, certifications, or other testing.

COMPENSATION. $20.73 per hour.

SCHEDULE. This is a seasonal position to begin approximately April 29th for a term not to exceed six months.  The schedule will be five days per week, 8am-4pm, generally Monday-Friday, but may occasionally be requested to adjust schedule due to inclement weather days or other business operation needs Monday through Friday.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL.

  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Are 18 years of age or older.
  • Physical ability to lift heavy objects in order to load, unload, and store materials (50-100 pounds with assistance), lift above shoulders, and bend repeatedly.
  • Ability to climb and work in high areas, including ladders and scaffolding.
  • Experience and ability to drive pickup trucks and haul trailers.
  • Experience operating hand tools, chainsaws, and other power equipment.
  • Experience with basic concepts of electrical energy.
  • Electrical utility training or experience preferred.
  • Experience operating forklifts is preferred.
  • CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
  • Excellent time management, organization, and communication skills.
  • A positive, motivated attitude that works well with little direct supervision.
  • Willing and able to work outside for long periods of time and in various weather conditions (humid, damp, rainy, snowy, hot, cold, windy, etc.).
