Projects – Second Interconnection

What is the Second Interconnection?

The Second Interconnection Project is the construction of a 69kV transmission line from a MISO connected substation on CR 480 to one of MBLP’s substations in South Marquette (site of the former Shiras Steam Plant)

Why do we need to construct the Second Interconnection?

The Second Interconnection will serve as an additional connection to the greater transmission grid. This connection provides the MBLP & its customers enhanced reliability & resiliency by ensuring we have multiple avenues to keep the lights on for our customers.

How was the route for the Second Interconnection Determined?

The route of the Second Interconnection was planned based the most direct and least impactful route. Most of the route already has smaller MBLP distribution lines already in place, these lines will be transferred to the larger Transmission poles and a majority of the smaller poles will be removed.

This timeline will be updated as the project moves forward.
