Director of Human Resources and Labor Relations

The Marquette Board of Light and Power, a community-owned, not-for-profit Municipal Electric Utility, is seeking a highly skilled individual to lead its Human Resources Department. The Director of Human Resources and Labor Relations is part of the senior staff management team that reports to the Executive Director and is responsible for all planning, directing, and management of human resources including benefit administration, labor negotiations, risk management, safety, recruitment, succession planning, insurance, and health and wellness.

The qualifying candidate must have excellent communication, management, and organizational skills and be able to work in a team-oriented environment. A Bachelor’s Degree in human resource management, business administration, or public administration with a minimum of 10 years of progressive HR leadership roles along with Union negotiation experience required. Equivalent HR and labor relations experience will be considered. Professional HR certification desired. A Master’s degree in public administration or business is a plus.   

This position represents the MBLP in the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union. In addition, works closely with current and retired Union/Management employees as needed. Will make presentations to the publicly elected Board as necessary. Must be able to maintain effective working relationships with the employees, elected officials and the public. Prepares and administer budgets in a cost-effective manner.
