ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEER POSITION OPEN
The Marquette Board of Light and Power, a municipal electric utility located in Marquette, MI, has an opening for an Environmental Engineer at its Shiras Steam Plant and Marquette Energy Center (MEC).
The successful candidate will perform professional engineering and administrative functions involving licensing, emission monitoring and reporting, environmental permitting, and unit performance monitoring in accordance with all applicable federal, state, and/or local regulations for the utility’s coal-fired generating plant, the new MEC’s three dual-fueled turbines (natural gas and diesel), Combustion Turbine, and two hydro generating facilities. Candidate will be familiar with all Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) Licensing, EPA, MDEQ, and related environmental laws applicable and be able to interpret future regulatory laws/rules that may be promulgated. Will also be responsible for all MSDS recordkeeping and compliance.
Will function as the utility’s liaison with all governmental agencies regarding inspections and other environmental matters, and prepare accurate and timely reports as required. Will forecast environmental requirements for budgeting, operation, and planning purposes and will plan, design and develop engineering methods and compliance alternatives for the utility. Preference will be given to candidates with a knowledge of the Clean Air Act, CCR, Water Quality, wildlife and habitat statutes, rules and regulations.
Minimum requirements include a four-year degree in Environmental Engineering from an ABET accredited university with a minimum of 5-7 years of environmental work experience at an electric utility or industrial setting. Professional Engineering License in the state of Michigan desirable. Experience in the design, operation, and maintenance of an environmental program in an electric utility or industrial setting is preferred. The successful candidate will have a sound background in computers for reporting purposes. Must be self-directed and be able to work as a team to be an organizational fit.
